Depending on the number and size of the animatronic dinosaurs, it's hard to pin down an exact production timeline. Let's break it down using the example of making five dinosaurs, each under 10 meters long, to give you a rough idea of how long each step might take:
1. Prepping the Materials: 1-2 Days
Since most of our animatronic dinosaurs are custom-made, we usually need to gather the materials based on the order requirements. This step typically takes about 1-2 days.
2. Welding the Mechanical Frame: 2-4 Days
The first major step is crafting the internal steel structure, which is super important because it sets the dinosaur's proportions and shape. Skilled welders use steel bars to build the frame, and they also install motors in the right spots to make sure the dinosaur moves smoothly. This part usually takes 2-4 days.
3. Sculpting the Dinosaur's Muscles: 2-3 Days
Once the frame is done, the sculptors get to work. They glue blocks of foam together and carve out the dinosaur's muscles using special tools. They often refer to reconstruction drawings or models made by experts to get the details just right. This step takes about 2-3 days.
4. Creating the Dinosaur's Skin: 2-3 Days
The skin is what makes the dinosaur look realistic and also makes it durable and waterproof. First, the artists stretch an elastic fabric over the dinosaur to reinforce the skin. Then, they mix silicone glue with gasoline (as a thinner) and brush it evenly over the fabric to make it waterproof. This process usually takes 2-3 days.
5. Painting the Skin: 1-2 Days
Painting is a big deal - it's what brings the dinosaur to life and makes it look convincing. The artists use spray guns to apply special paints, adding patterns and details based on the client's requests. This step typically takes 1-2 days.
So, the whole process can take anywhere from 8 to 14 working days, depending on factors like the number of dinosaurs, their size, the weather, and how busy we are with other orders.
